El juego inicia en 2017. Se anunció que la ya muy esperada aventura de ciencia ficción dirigida por Steven Spielberg Ready Player One de Warner Bros. Pictures, Village Roadshow Pictures y DreamWorks Pictures, está programada a partir del 15 de diciembre de 2017.
Ready Player One marca el regreso a Warner Bros. de Spielberg, quien previamente dirigió para el estudio Empire of the Sun, The Color Purple y A.I. Artificial Intelligence, además de producir los éxitos Gremlins y The Goonies.
El tres veces ganador del Oscar, Spielberg (Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan), está dirigiendo Ready Player One, basada en el bestseller homónimo de Ernest Cline, que se ha convertido en un fenómeno mundial. La producción de la película está a cargo de Spielberg, De Line Pictures, Dan Farah y Kristie Macosko Krieger.
